I'm surprised there haven't been witch hunts by now. It'll be 1980 all over again. -

Dissenters in Watchtower History: Differing Departures
by slimboyfat ini'm reading an excellent book about defectors from the mormon church called differing visions: dissenters in mormon history.
through a collection of essays from many academic authors it looks at the life stories of dissenters and reasons for departure, as well as analysing the impact of their dissent on the church itself.
fascinating stuff and makes me wish there was a similar volume looking at the key dissenters from jws/watchtower and the impact they had.

They are Watchtower believers without the Watchtower. Patriots without a nation.
I don't think some of them, at least the youngest ones, can last in the organization for too long if they were to have their crisis of conscience. And as far as forming their own religion that is even more unlikely since "The Organization" is an intrinsic part of the JW psyche and they're nothing without an organization. It's very unlikely that they'll form a counter organization.
I could picture them, though, joining another church closer to their beliefs though there aren't many.

John Aquila, is it possible that those younger than 65 are not being invited on purpose? Maybe they think that only those who have seen a lot during their lives can be trusted.
PS: Sorry if this was already answered.

slimboyfat:
"Lloyd Evans: aka Cedars, the greatest and most important defector of all human history from the Watchtower whose significance is simply beyond evaluation or estimation."
Why do you believe that Cedars has a greater position than Raymond Franz?

The past can be a guide to the future. The Watchtower lost up to 75% of their members during the Rutherfordian regime. They simply split off into different "Bible Student" sects (some of which are still around) or went to some other church.
Not only did they survive but they eventually increased in numbers after being transformed into preaching robots. I'm not saying that the same exact thing will happen but I do believe that they'll waste away down to a stable level.
I also believe that the Watchtower will continue to simplify their meetings to lighten the load of elders and ministerial servants. Not out of concern for their well being (they don't give a damn) but to keep what few of them they have.
Also any reduction in numbers is likely to be limited to the English speaking nations and some European countries. I don't believe that apostate websites, which act like a magnet on the disenchanted, are available in much numbers or at all in many foreign languages.

How would you/did you categorize the elders in YOUR hall!
by Truthexplorer ini would consider some of the elders in my hall genuine shepherds ( though g men) there are a couple others i would consider robotic/wooden (boring) but ok. then of course there is the complete knob (pharisee wannabe) who grinds my wife and i's gears.
every hall seems to have one!!!
so how do/did you view the elders in your hall?

There was the friendly psychopath who was always eager to disfellowship someone (including me).
There was the nice guy who got disfellowshipped twice for prescription medicine abuse and, later on, for adultery. He said at my judicial committee that if I were in Israel I would be stoned and that I was the greatest hater of Jehovah's people since Nimrod (with reference to my "apostasy"). He also repeated that in his car after he graciously offered to give me a drive home.
There was the aloof one whom I never had any dealings with.
Then there was the young newbie elder who announced my disfellowshipping at the Hall. When he saw me sitting there he flinched.
